"From Military Service to PNW Small-Town Love: Our Journey of Restoration and Preservation"
Hello, I'm Douglas Shaw, and I want to share our heartfelt story with you. In 2016, I retired from the military and, along with my wife and our five grown children, embarked on a new chapter of life in the beautiful town of Poulsbo, WA. We fell head over heels in love with this charming community, and we've worked tirelessly to establish deep roots here.
Our personal story connects us with small-town life, as my wife and I both grew up in Northern California, in a beautiful little town called Paradise. On November 8, 2018, tragedy struck when the devastating Camp Fire wiped our hometown off the map. It was a day of unimaginable loss. My entire family and many friends were still living in Paradise, and amidst the destruction, I realized that so many precious family heirlooms, spanning many generations, had been forever lost.
Determined to preserve what little remained, we made it our mission to collect and share what we still had in our possession with our family. In pursuit of this mission, we invested in high-end equipment to archive these cherished memories. As we completed the task of preserving our history, my father-in-law approached us with a request to do the same for his family's legacy, which dates back to 1771 and John Hanson, one of our founding fathers.
What started as a personal mission soon transformed into something more significant. We processed nearly 6,000 photos, slides, diaries, family tree documents, and old audio tapes, breathing new life into these precious relics of the past. However, after this initial endeavor, our equipment lay dormant, gathering dust.
One morning, as I gazed upon the collection of film scanning equipment we had acquired, a thought crossed my mind. Could I offer these services to others in our local community? I decided to put out a call on social media, and within hours, my inbox and phone were flooded with requests. I started processing photos and film that very same day. We've also been in contact with the Library of Congress for a project we've only just started.
This journey has ignited a passion within us for sharing our skills with people. There's no greater joy than witnessing the delight on someone's face as they rediscover their photos and films in a new light. In some instances, customers have brought us never-before-seen films, and the emotions it evoked brought tears to their eyes.
As we continue down this path, we eagerly look forward to meeting new people, hearing your stories, and helping you unearth your own trove of family treasures. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us, so we can discuss how to personalize your project and embark on this meaningful journey together."
With warm regards,
Douglas & Amber Shaw
